The International Master's in Sustainable Cities is an interdisciplinary programme led by the Faculty of Geography of the University of Strasbourg, at the head of a consortium of renowned universities from both the Global North and South: Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (Germany), Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe (Germany), Hassan II University of Casablanca (Morocco), University of Ghana (Ghana), and Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia).
Its main objective is to design and implement a high-quality curriculum at the forefront of pedagogical innovation, with a strong international dimension, in order to address the complex and evolving challenges of urban sustainability in an uncertain global context. The programme aims to obtain the ERASMUS MUNDUS label and is based on a modular structure organized around three complementary competence clusters:
Blue Competence: Water management, nature-based solutions, and prevention of natural (floods, droughts, urban heat islands) and public health risks.
Green Competence: Sustainable land use management, promotion of urban biodiversity, green infrastructure, and protection of the urban climate.
Grey Competence: Design of energy-efficient built environments, urban mobility, infrastructure, and social cohesion.
This Master's programme aims to train a new generation of urban planners capable of providing interdisciplinary, practical, and sustainable responses to major societal challenges, and contributing to the development of inclusive, productive, resilient, and ecologically responsible cities.
