Thesis prize to young PhDs from the Alsace academic site who have written outstanding theses in environmental and sustainability sciences.

FERED Thesis Award in Environmental and Sustainability Sciences

The FERED Thesis Award recognised outstanding research in environmental and sustainability sciences, highlighting an interdisciplinary approach. It distinguished doctoral theses that combined, to varying degrees, biogeophysical sciences for the study of ecosystem functioning and social sciences to analyse human dynamics, perceptions, and associated policies.

This award was open to doctoral candidates who defended their theses between 2020 and 2024 at an Alsatian academic institution affiliated with FERED. Submitted theses were required to have been assessed as "excellent" or "exceptional" by the reviewers.

Application Process and Requirements

Applicants were required to submit the following documents:

  • The thesis in PDF format,
  • A cover letter specifying the award category (Environment or Sustainability),
  • A curriculum vitae,
  • A summary of the thesis,
  • Reviewers' reports, as well as the final defence report.

FERED Thesis Award Laureates

The award, with a prize of €1,500, was granted to the following laureates:

  • 2021: Raul Polit Cassillas (Unistra, iCUBE)
  • 2022: Guillaume Jacek (Unistra, ENGEES)
  • 2023: Tobias Junginger (Unistra, ITES)
  • 2024: Julien Pongerard (Unistra, ENGEES)
