Save the Date Trinational Summer School"Urban Micropollutants – Diagnostics, Challenges, and Solutions for 21st-Century Cities"

July 7–10, 2025
University of Strasbourg, France
About the Event
From Monday, July 7, to Thursday, July 10, 2025, the University of Strasbourg (UniStra) will host a Summer School focused on urban micropollutants. These contaminants, originating from human activities such as transportation, construction, agriculture, industry, and everyday product use, pose a significant environmental challenge for urban areas. This interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary program is designed for PhD students and aims to deepen understanding of micropollutant sources, impacts, and socio-environmental strategies for minimizing their use, presence, and dispersion in urban environments.
Participants will explore diagnostic methods for both historical pollutants and emerging contaminants across different environmental compartments. They will then analyze socio-ecological transition pathways toward cleaner and more sustainable cities, identifying key challenges and alternatives to current pollutant usage. A dedicated session will cover governance and regulation, providing insights into urban pollution management policies. Finally, participants will examine monitoring and modeling tools to assess surveillance and forecasting solutions.
The program will combine expert lectures, field visits led by researchers, and collaborative group work, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and collective intelligence. The Summer School will conclude with participant presentations to local stakeholders involved in micropollutant management, offering a unique opportunity to engage with experts and contribute to real-world urban sustainability challenges.
This event is organized in collaboration with Eucor – The European Campus (including UniStra & UFR), ENGEES, CNRS, University of Landau, the INTERREG “Reactive City” project, ITI SWITCH, and Ökoinstitut Freiburg.
