Conservation Concepts and Practices

Conservation Concepts and Practices
Master Sciences de la Terre et des planètes, environnementParcours Continental Water Sustainability

Description

By modifying the environment, humans often make space inhabitable for non-human beings. This course will help to understand the causes of species rarefaction (or the facilitation of species invasions)  and their consequences on biodiversity and ecosystem processes (resp. Ecosystem Services). Based on this knowledge, a synopsis of conservation approaches will be given. These differ in their objectives and their geographic dimensions, and are specifically complicated when it comes to  transboundary hydrosystem governance. Attempts to harmonise these systems (e.g. MIDAS) will be discussed and – based on case studies –  further developed.
