Description

Improving the ecological status of water bodies is a socio-political goal throughout Europe. In addition to water quality, structural quality plays a decisive role. In river engineering practice, the structural quality is improved as part of so-called revitalization measures (formerly also renaturation measures).

The didactic tool used in the course is the "project-based learning" methodology. Using a specific case study, the basic principles of the course are applied and all relevant work steps up to the preparation of a preliminary draft for a revitalization measure are worked out (e.g.: deficit analysis, definition of development goals, development of measures, hydraulic proofs, drawing up plans, writing an explanatory report). The class is organized in group work.
